Nathan Russ

Nathan Russ, 13, has been playing the cello since the age of 7. He lives in Klein, Texas and is homeschooled in the 8th grade. Nathan has participated in numerous summer programs and master classes, soloing with an orches-tra in summer 2019. Nathan has twice earned principal cello in the Texas Music Educators Association Region IX Junior High Orchestra. He has won several gold medals for solos at the Texas UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, advancing to state for the first time at age 10. Nathan presented a solo recital in March 2020 performing works of Bach, Beethoven, and Kabalevsky.
He has performed with the Houston Youth Symphony for the past five years, and studies privately with Courtenay Vandiver Pereira. A video and board game enthusiast, Nathan also enjoys playing tennis and the piano. He has two cats, Lucy and Gracie, who are a frequent, if indifferent, audience.
