Sarah Dyer, contralto, is a native Nebraskan currently based in Houston, Texas. She is a 2023 Fielder Grant recipient, a 2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Encouragement Award recipient (Houston District) and will be a 2023 Apprentice Artist with the Central City Opera.
This spring, Ms Dyer completed the Certificate of Performance in Vocal Performance at the University of Houston, where she previously graduated with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy (2021). Ms Dyer recently portrayed Frederico Garciá Lorca in OsvaldoGolijov’s Ainadamar (regional premiere)with Moores Opera Center. Previous performances with the MOC include Sondheim on Sondheim, Cornelia in Giulio Cesare, Madame Armfeldt in A Little Night Music, Florence Pike in Albert Herring, Tisbe in La Cenerentola, and Miss Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief .
In 2022, Ms Dyer was a Vocal Fellow with the Music Academy of the West, where she performed Madame Larina in Eugene Onegin. She also made her debut with Ars Lyrica as the Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas. She won the silver prize in The 37th Annual Young Texas Artist Competition and was voted Audience Choice winner in the 2022 Houston Saengerbund Competition. Ms Dyer was an Emerging Artist with the 2021 Opera in the Ozarks, performing Madame de la Haltière in Cendrillon.
Upcoming in May, Ms Dyer will perform as contralto soloist in two world premiere chamber works with the Houston Grand Opera’s Seeking the Human Spirit Initiative.
