Katherine Butler

Katherine Butler, 15, has been studying
the violin since the age of four. She is
a freshman at the High School for
Performing and Visual Arts, where she
is an honor roll student and a member
of the orchestra, which is directed by Dr.
Bradley Smith. She has been a member
of many different chamber ensembles
with whom she earned recognition as
a Houston Young Artist, placed 1st
in the 2016 HMTA Chamber Music
and Ensemble Contest, and performed
recitals with the Music Ensemble
Program. She also won 2nd place in
the Houston Civic Symphony Young
Artist Competition in December 2016.
Additionally, she performed with the
MPVA orchestra under direction of Mr.
Marcos Altamirano and Dr. Ben Grube
as concertmistress in 2016–2017. In the
summer of 2017, she participated in
the Sewanee Summer Music Festival,
where she was a member of the
Sewanee Symphony, the top orchestra.
She currently studies with Ms. Katrina
Bobbs-Savitski, and her previous
teachers include Ms. Florence Muller,
Ms. Eileen Chen, Ms. Juliette Javaheri,
and Ms. Brittany MacWilliams. In her
free time, she enjoys listening to classical
music, arranging pieces for specific
ensembles, and playing chamber music.
