Kaysi Yearous
Educating Houston's youth through orchestral excellence
Kaysi Yearous began playing piano at age four and graduated from the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas. She is now a student at the Peabody Institute, where she studies with Professor Boris Slutsky.
During her time with Virtuosi of Houston, Kaysi performed as a soloist in the premiere of Robert Nelson’s Introduction and Allegro for Solo Piano and Harp. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Central Texas Philharmonic and the HSPVA Symphony. Her competition prizes include recognition from the MTNA Conference Texas Division, the Chopin Society of Houston Youth Competition, the Rubato International Piano Competition, the Texas State International Piano Festival Concerto Competition, and the Sherer International Piano Competition, among others. She has attended festivals including PianoTexas, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Colburn Piano Seminar, and the Oberlin Piano Festival, and has worked in masterclasses with Michelle Cann, Joyce Yang, Lydia Artymiw, Joseph Rackers, and Lowell Liebermann.
Beyond performance, Kaysi is passionate about music education and community engagement. She co-founded HSPVA’s chapter of Music as Medicine, organizing performances and lessons at hospitals, care centers, and schools throughout Houston, and has taught piano through several volunteer programs across the city. Outside of music, she enjoys reading and maintains an extensive collection of rubber ducks.
