Caleb Quillen

Caleb Quillen, double bassist

Caleb Quillen is a double bassist who serves as Principal Bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, holding the Harold D. Hodgkinson chair. A native Houstonian and Virtuosi of Houston alumnus, he joined the BSO in 2025.

He previously played in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and spent seven seasons with the Kansas City Symphony, and has appeared with the Chicago Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, and New York Philharmonic. He was a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center and the New York Philharmonic Global Academy.

He studied double bass at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music with Paul Ellison and Timothy Pitts, and at the New England Conservatory with Lawrence Wolfe and Donald Palma.
