Andrew Moritz

Andy Moritz is an active professional bassist and music educator in the Greater Houston area and the director of The Bass Studio, an intensive double bass instruction program. He holds a Master’s degree in Double Bass Performance & Pedagogy and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, both from the University of Houston, and is a registered Suzuki bass instructor and a member of the International Society of Bassists. He has served on the faculty of Sam Houston State University and is the bass instructor for the American Festival of the Arts High School Summer Music Festival, and is a frequent clinician for the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Orchestra Directors Association. His students have earned seats in the Texas All-State orchestras for more than 25 consecutive years and have gone on to study at institutions including Baylor, the University of North Texas, Mannes, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and The Juilliard School. An active performer, he is the bassist for Cadillac Sky and a founding member of Classical Grass, and has performed with the Brazos Valley Symphony, Brazosport Symphony, and The Woodlands Symphony. He is the author of Scale Skills: A Systematic Approach to Skills Development for double bass.
