The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University is one of the oldest and most prestigious conservatories in the United States, located in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1857 — making it the first U.S. institution founded specifically for the advancement of music — Peabody offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in performance, composition, conducting, music education, recording arts, and music theory. Its faculty includes world-class performers and scholars drawn from leading orchestras and institutions worldwide.
Peabody is home to a vibrant community of student performers who train alongside faculty from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and other top ensembles. The conservatory offers extensive concert programming throughout the year and maintains strong connections to the professional music world through its LAUNCHPad career services program and partnerships with major organizations including the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.
Virtuosi of Houston alumnus Ira Gold serves as Associate Professor of Double Bass at Peabody, where he has been on faculty since 2009, teaching private lessons, orchestral repertoire, and masterclasses.
