Emily Jihee Sonn

Emily Jihee Sonn, 18, is a Senior at Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. She began learning violin at age 7 in South Korea. After moving to the U.S. at 11, she kept studying with Ella Burgerenko, Michelle Choi and Jiyeon Min. Currently, she is under the instruction of Katrina Bobbs Savitski. Emily has been a member of Honor Orchestra, directed by Danielle Prontka and Matthew Chan. She was a part of the Houston Youth Symphony for four years. She attended the 2016 Texas String Camp, the 2018 Credo Music Camp and Conservatory Audition Workshop, and the 2019 Encore Music Festival. As an active soloist, she won the 2018 Clear Lake Symphony Concerto Competition, 3rd place winner at Fort Bend Youth Concerto, and 1st place on the Virtousi Concerto competition. Also, her solo performances both in district and in state have ranked in outstanding performance for the past two years. In addition, she has played twice as a concert master in region 27 concert and joined 2017–2018 all state orchestra concert. Outside of music, she likes listening to K-pop, watching Korean broadcasting and spending time with family, friends and her cat.
