Gabriel Vaca is a 17-year-old senior from George Ranch High School who began studying clarinet in 6th grade at First Colony Middle School in 2013. Gabriel studies under Chester Rowell, a professor of clarinet at the University of Houston, and has performed with various ensembles while studying under him. He has performed with the George Ranch High School Wind Symphony directed by Daren Jordan, the 6A All-State Symphonic Band conducted by Steven Davis, and region ensembles conducted by the likes of Jeffrey Grogan, Eugene Corporon, and Kevin Sedatole. Gabriel was also accepted by the 2019 IAC World Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Interlochen Clarinet Institute, and currently performs with the Houston Youth Symphony’s Symphony Orchestra. In addition to Bb and A clarinet, Gabriel has also performed on Eb clarinet, Bass clarinet, EWI. Outside of music, Gabriel is also involved in honor societies within his school as well as UIL Academics.
