Andrew Yang is a 16-year-old sophomore at Kinkaid High School. This year will mark his second as a violin for Virtuosi of Houston. He began playing violin in kindergarten and took private lessons from Rodica Gonzalez, a first violin in the Houston Orchestra. This, however, was not how he was introduced to the world of music, as he began playing piano even earlier that year. In the eighth grade, he placed first stand of the first violins in the Region Philharmonic Orchestra. During the summer of 2015, he attended Virtuosi’s Small Ensemble Summer Workshop where he learned from a professional small ensemble group. In the ninth grade, he played second violin in the TPSMEA Region Orchestra. He currently plays in the Kinkaid String Orchestra and the Kinkaid Symphony. Outside of playing the violin, he excels in school, participates in debate and plays basketball recreationally.
