Jonathan Mitchell is a fifteen year old freshman at The Kinkaid School where he is a member of the orchestra and symphony orchestra under the direction of Mr. Steve Kastner. He has played the double bass for seven years. A student of Donald Howey of the Houston Symphony, Jonathan has played in the Houston Youth Symphony for three years and the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra for three years. Jonathan was second chair in the bass section of All-State Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) in 2015 and 2016. He also performed as first chair in the Middle School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in 2016. Jonathan has attended Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan for the last 6 years studying double bass under Aaron Tenney, as well as playing in the jazz band the last 2 years. While excelling in school, Jonathan is also on the Kinkaid JV football, wrestling and track teams. In addition, he participates in technical theatre and likes to play bass guitar in the orchestra pit under the direction of Chip Colvin for Kinkaid musical productions. Jonathan enjoys scuba diving, travelling, video games and playing with his three Australian Shepherds.
