Grant Velasquez

Grant Velasquez is 17 years old and a senior at Cy-Fair High School. He currently plays for a chamber orchestra under the direction of Mr. Kevin Ray. He started playing viola in 6th grade. When he was in 7th grade, he was promoted to the 8th grade chamber orchestra. He has qualified for TMEA Region 27 since he was in 7th grade, and was 1st chair for the 2011–2012 season. Grant is honored to be in his 4th year with Virtuosi of Houston and is looking forward to topping his past experience of traveling to Paris and placing 4th in the 2014–2015 season’s Concerto Competition. He currently takes private lessons with Mr. Rene Salazar, principal violist for the Houston Ballet Orchestra. Grant is a musician at heart. He started playing piano at 4 years old, he learned to play the guitar at 7 years old and at 9 years old the bass guitar and was a member of a youth rock band at Club Rock in All About Music and Arts for 6 years. Grant holds a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He enjoys computer and video games, traveling, airplanes, cars and reading Sci-Fi novels.
