Gavin Santopetro is an 18 year old bassoonist from Spring, Texas. He began playing the bassoon in sixth grade at age 11. He also plays the tenor saxophone for jazz and marching band since freshman year, and dabbles in piano, guitar, and trumpet. He is a senior at Klein Collins and made the Region Nine band for the past two years, as well as advancing to Area auditions last year. He’s earned “Excellent” and “Outstanding” ratings at the Klein ISD Solo and Ensemble Contest throughout middle and high school. Gavin played with the Houston Youth Symphony 2015–2016 in the Philharmonia as Principle Bassoonist, and through this organization has performed on multiple occasions at Rice University’s Stude Concert Hall. Gavin studies under Mrs. Becky Lewis for bassoon, and under Mr. Danny Kamins for tenor saxophone/jazz. His Orchestra and Wind Ensemble directors are Mr. Carlos Lara and Mr. Christopher Rugila, respectively. Writing orchestral pieces and jazz charts are his favorite hobbies.
