Douglas Perry is a 15 year old cellist. Douglas fell in love with the cello at a Houston Symphony event at the age of two and at four began studying Suzuki cello. Since then, he played 4 years with the Parker Performing Strings, 2 years with the Johnston Sinfonia Orchestra, 2 years with the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra, and spent 5 years in the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio Summer Symphony. This is his second season with Virtuosi. From September to January, a family health emergency put him in Oklahoma where he is volunteering as a cello coach with the music education non-profit organization Sistema-Tulsa, a sister program to the Venezuelan El Sistema. He has attended Virtuosi rehearsals via Skype for the winter season, coming home to Houston for the concert.
Along with cello, Douglas also studies piano, hand bells and voice. He is a choral scholar at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and participates in the Royal School of Church Music.
