Daniel Westerfield, 18, is proud to celebrate his senior year at Jersey Village High School as a member of the Virtuosi of Houston. He began playing the bassoon at 12 years old in 6th grade. Since seventh grade, he has placed in the Region XXVII Bands every year, been a member of the All-Region Orchestra four times, and advanced to Area level twice. Daniel’s most influential teachers have been Ashley Maydwell-Jennings, Elise Wagner, and his current teacher, Micah Doherty. In addition to Virtuosi, Daniel has been a member of Houston Youth Symphony for the past four years, where he is principal contrabassoonist with the Symphony orchestra, under the direction of Michael Webster. He is the principal bassoonist of the Jersey Village Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Brett Nelson. Daniel plans to major in bassoon performance and become a contrabassoonist with a major orchestra. When not playing the bassoon, he enjoys spending time with friends and playing saxophone as a hobby.
