Andrew Cliburn

Andrew Cliburn is now 17 years
old and is proud to be reunited with
Virtuosi of Houston for his second
season. He is a junior attending
Langham Creek High School and is
principal clarinetist of the school’s
Wind Ensemble under the direction
of Gloria Ramirez. Andrew has been
playing the clarinet since he was in
sixth grade at 12 years old. He formerly
studied with Jo Lena Dial, and now
works with Houston Symphony
member Alexander Potiomkin. Since
seventh grade, every year Andrew has
scored first division ratings on solos
and ensembles for the UIL Solo and
Ensemble contest, earned a place in
the Region XXII All-Region band,
advanced to Area competition his
freshman and sophomore years, and
advanced to All-State earning a spot
in the 2017 All-State Symphonic
Band in tenth grade. Following high
school graduation, Andrew plans to
pursue a degree in music education of
all types, from private lesson teaching
to symphony directing, in order to
achieve his dream of helping many
people around the world become
better musicians.
