Andrew Cliburn, age 18, is entering his third season in Virtuosi of Houston as a senior at Langham Creek High School. He is a drum major for his band and is principal clarinetist of the school’s Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Gloria Ramirez. Andrew started playing the clarinet in sixth grade, at 12 years old. He began private studies with his former teacher, Jo Lena Dial, in seventh grade, and has been under the instruction of Houston Symphony member Sasha Potiomkin since tenth grade. Andrew has scored first division ratings at every UIL Solo and Ensemble contest, as well as earned a place in the Region XXVII All-Region Band since seventh grade. Additionally, he has advanced to Area in the Region Band process every year since he was a freshman, earned a spot in the All-State band sophomore and junior years, and made the Region XXVII HS Symphony Orchestra his junior year. In addition to band and Virtuosi, Andrew is a top player in the CFISD Honor Clarinet Choir, which will be performing at the Midwest Music Festival in Chicago.
